POVEGLIA ISLAND

Poveglia island is located between Venice and Lido in the Venitian lagoon at northern ltaly . A small canal divides into two parts.

The island is first mentioned in chronicles of 421, when people from Pauda and Este fled there to escape the barbarian invasions. In the 9th century the island’s population began to grow, and in the following centuries its importance grew steadily, until it was governed by a dedicated Podesta. In 1379 Venice came under attack from the Genoan fleet; the people of Poveglia were moved to the Giudecca

The island remained uninhabited in the subsequent years. this is considered to be haunted for the last few years. The people in italy claimed that the hospital in poveglia island is haunted , the people in italy claims that there was an evil doctor in that hospital who experimented on patients and then buried their dead bodies in the graveyard . Many people who went to research never returned and this island is filled with dead bodies . This place is one of the top haunted place in the world , this island is now off limits to any tourist and is declared by the government , that no one is suppose to enter the island .
